Tønder Municipality has something to offer for everyone. If you wish to spend a holiday close to the beach and the sea, Rømø is the perfect place to visit. The wide and kilometre-long sandy beaches of the island offer a myriad of possibilities. Here you can bathe, enjoy the sun, go for long walks and relax in the dunes. But you can also be active and try a ride on a blokart or a kite buggy – wind sport activities that can only be enjoyed in very few places around the world.
On the island of Rømø, it is possible to join an oyster safari or one of the many other guided nature experiences; you can cycle, play golf, hike or go for a ride through the small woods or along the beach.
All over Tønder Municipality, you will find restaurants which take pride in using local ingredients. It is a true gastronomic discovery to taste the delicacies from the larder of the Wadden Sea.
In Tønder you will find very good shopping possibilities. The cosy old commercial town with its charming pedestrian street booms with exciting specialist shops. The art museum in Tønder exhibits the best works of art from the Nordic world from 1880 until the present day. The adjoining water tower houses a museum with chairs designed by the famous furniture architect H.J. Wegner, who was born in Tønder.
In Møgeltønder you will find the most beautiful village street in Denmark and in addition Schackenborg Castle and a charming village church.
In the beginning of September, a kite festival takes place on Lakolk Beach on Rømø. It is an amazing sight when thousands of kites in all sizes and in all the colours of the rainbow ascend from the sandy beach.
